
Rev. Jerry E. Martin, former Pastor of St. Matthew Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Twin Oaks, PA, served from July 1991 to July 2000. He was called to preach in 1987, licensed in 1989, and ordained in 1991 by Bishop Oree Broomfield Sr. He became a traveling elder in 1994.
Born in McMinnville, TN, Rev. Martin’s passion for piano began at age 7. He played for his local church choir by age 12 and later studied music at Motlow State Community College and Tennessee State University.
After moving to Pemberton, NJ, he played with various bands and church choirs and founded Jazspir (a jazz/gospel band) and The Eternal Spirits (a male gospel group). He served at Nazarene Baptist Church in Philadelphia from 2008 to 2019.
In 2016, he was elected President of the National Federation of Bible Studies. He returned to Southside Baptist Church in Lumberton, NJ, in 2019, where he serves as Associate Pastor/Music Director. Rev. Martin retired from the State Government in 2006 and enjoys golf, fishing, photography, art, computers, and music. He’s married to Averill A. Martin, with 4 children, 8 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
